Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Chiang Khan. Head east on Route 201, following the signs towards Pak Tom. Continue on Route 201 for approximately 15 kilometers until you reach RH93+RM5, Pak Tom, Chiang Khan District, Loei 42110. The Big Buddha is located on a hill, and you will see signs directing you to the parking area. There may be a small parking fee, so be prepared with cash.

• Public Transportation (Songthaew)

  For those using public transportation, take a songthaew (shared taxi) from Chiang Khan to Pak Tom. The fare is usually around 30-50 THB depending on your starting point. Inform the driver that you are heading to the Big Buddha at Phu Kok Ngiew. Once you arrive at Pak Tom, you may need to walk a short distance to the base of the hill where the Big Buddha is located. Look for signs or ask locals for directions if needed.

• Walking

  If you are already in Pak Tom and prefer to walk, you can make your way to the Big Buddha by heading towards the hill located at RH93+RM5. It is a moderate hike, so wear comfortable shoes and bring water. The path is well-trodden, and you will be rewarded with stunning views of the Mekong River and Laos as you ascend.

• Private Taxi

  For a more comfortable journey, consider hiring a private taxi from Chiang Khan to the Big Buddha. This option offers flexibility and convenience, especially if you are traveling with a group. The cost may vary, but you can expect to pay around 300-500 THB for a round trip. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand and ask the driver to wait for you while you visit the site.
