Travel Guide to Mae Phun Waterfall, Laplae Town

Getting There

• Car

  From Chiang Mai, take Route 118 heading south towards Lampang. After approximately 154 km, merge onto Route 1 (Phahonyothin Road) towards Uttaradit. Continue on Route 1 for about 90 km until you reach Laplae Town. Look for signs directing you to Mae Phun Waterfall. The waterfall is located approximately 15 km from Laplae Town, following Route 1043. The road is generally well-marked, and you will find local signs indicating the way to the waterfall.

• Bus

  From Chiang Mai, take a bus from the Arcade Bus Station to Uttaradit. Buses operate frequently, and the journey takes about 4-5 hours. Once in Uttaradit, transfer to a local minivan or songthaew heading to Laplae Town. This ride will take approximately 30-45 minutes. Upon arrival in Laplae, you can hire a local tuk-tuk or motorcycle taxi to reach Mae Phun Waterfall, which is about 15 km away. Ensure you confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey.

• Motorcycle

  If you prefer to explore Northern Thailand on two wheels, you can rent a motorcycle in Chiang Mai. Follow the same route as mentioned for cars. The flexibility of a motorcycle allows you to enjoy the scenic views along Route 118 and Route 1. Once you reach Laplae, continue on Route 1043 to Mae Phun Waterfall. Be cautious of local traffic and road conditions, especially in the more rural areas.

• Taxi or Ride-hailing Service

  For a more direct route, you can hire a taxi or use a ride-hailing app like Grab from Chiang Mai to Laplae. This option can be more expensive, costing around 2,000-3,000 THB depending on the driver. The journey will take approximately 3-4 hours. Once in Laplae, you can arrange for the same driver to take you to Mae Phun Waterfall or hire a local vehicle for that last leg of the trip.
