Car
If you're driving from Chiang Rai, take Route 1 (Phaholyothin Road) heading north. Continue for about 40 km until you reach the intersection with Route 118. Turn left onto Route 118 and follow it for approximately 25 km. Once you reach Wiang Pa Pao District, look for signs to Mae Chedi Mai. Turn left onto Mae Chedi Mai Road and follow the road for about 5 km until you see signs for Wat Phra That Mae Chedi. There is limited parking available near the temple.
Public Transportation
To reach Wat Phra That Mae Chedi using public transportation, start by taking a local bus or minivan from Chiang Rai Bus Station to Wiang Pa Pao District. The fare is usually around 50-100 THB and the journey takes about 1.5 hours. Once you arrive in Wiang Pa Pao, you can hire a motorbike taxi or songthaew (shared taxi) to take you to the temple for about 50-100 THB. Make sure to confirm the fare before starting your ride.
Motorbike Rental
For a more flexible option, consider renting a motorbike in Chiang Rai. Rental prices generally range from 150-300 THB per day. After renting, follow the same route as if you were driving a car. This way, you can explore the area at your own pace. Ensure you have a valid driver's license and wear a helmet while riding.
