Getting There

    If you are driving from any location in the Upper River Region, you will want to head towards the capital city, Banjul. Take the A1 road heading west towards Brikama. Continue on this road for approximately 90 kilometers (about 1.5 hours). Once you reach Brikama, follow the signs for Lamin on the Brikama Highway (B1). After around 15 kilometers, you will find the entrance to Abuko Nature Reserve on your left. Look for the sign indicating the reserve.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Abuko Nature Reserve via public transport, first, take a 'Gele-Gele' (shared taxi) or a bus from your location in the Upper River Region to Banjul. This journey may take approximately 2 hours and will cost around 30-50 Dalasi. Once in Banjul, find the bus or shared taxi heading to Brikama. The fare for this leg of the journey is typically around 20 Dalasi. After arriving in Brikama, you can catch another shared taxi or walk to the Brikama Highway (B1) and follow the road for about 15 kilometers until you see the entrance to Abuko Nature Reserve on your left.

  • Bicycle

    For the adventurous traveler, cycling from the Upper River Region to Abuko Nature Reserve is an option. However, it is recommended to start very early in the morning to avoid the heat. Follow the same route as if you were driving, using the A1 road towards Banjul, and then the B1 to Lamin. It is about 90 kilometers to Brikama, then another 15 kilometers to the reserve. Be sure to carry sufficient water and snacks for the journey.
