Car

If you are traveling by car, start from the town of Baucau, which is the nearest city with good road access. Drive southeast on the main road (Aileu-Baucau Road) for approximately 30 kilometers until you reach the junction that leads to Matebian Mountain. Turn left onto the road heading towards Matebian Mountain. Continue on this road for about 15 kilometers until you reach the base of the mountain. Here, you may need to switch to a four-wheel-drive vehicle or hire a local driver familiar with the area, as the roads can be rough. After about 10 kilometers of off-road driving, you will arrive at the entrance to Sertiliu, located at Rib De Laivai.

Public Transportation

To reach Sertiliu using public transportation, start by taking a 'microlet' (shared taxi) from Baucau to the nearest point on Matebian Mountain. Look for a microlet heading towards Matebian; they usually leave from the main bus terminal. The fare is around $1-2. Once you reach the closest drop-off point, you may have to arrange for a local motorcycle taxi (ojek) to take you the remaining distance. Be prepared to negotiate the fare, which typically costs around $5-10 depending on the distance. Inform the driver you want to go to Sertiliu at Rib De Laivai, and they will know where to take you.

Hiking

For the adventurous, if you are already in the vicinity of Matebian Mountain, you can hike to Sertiliu. Start your hike from the base of the mountain by following the well-trodden trails leading up to the summit. The hike will take approximately 2-3 hours depending on your pace. Ensure you have adequate water and snacks for the journey. Follow the trail markers and local signs pointing towards Rib De Laivai. Once you reach the area, navigate down towards Sertiliu, where you will find scenic views and local attractions.
