Getting There

  • Walking

    Start from the center of Atakpamé, near the main market (Marché d'Atakpamé). Head north on Avenue de la République towards the Boulevard du 24 Janvier. Continue straight for about 2 kilometers until you reach the junction with Route Nationale 1. At this junction, you will see signs pointing towards Koutammakou. Turn left onto Route Nationale 1 and walk for approximately 3 kilometers. Keep an eye out for local transport options such as shared taxis (known as 'sept-place') that may be heading towards Koutammakou. If you prefer to continue walking, proceed along the road until you reach the village of Dissani. Koutammakou is located just beyond Dissani, and you will see traditional Batammariba structures. The total distance from the center of Atakpamé to Koutammakou is about 5 kilometers.

  • Shared Taxi

    From the center of Atakpamé, walk to the main taxi station (Gare Routière d'Atakpamé) located near the market. Look for shared taxis (sept-place) heading towards Koutammakou or Dissani. The fare should be reasonable, generally around 1,000 to 2,000 CFA. Once you are in the taxi, inform the driver that you want to go to Koutammakou. The drive should take approximately 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. The taxi will drop you off in Dissani, from where you can either walk to Koutammakou or ask locals for directions to ensure you find the heritage site easily.

  • Bicycle

    If you are feeling adventurous, consider renting a bicycle in Atakpamé. Start at the main market and cycle north on Avenue de la République. Continue for about 2 kilometers until you reach the junction with Route Nationale 1. Turn left and continue cycling along the road for approximately 3 kilometers. You will pass small villages and beautiful countryside along the way. Once you reach Dissani, Koutammakou will be just beyond the village. Make sure to take your time and enjoy the scenery!
