If you have rented a car in Vava'u, start by heading towards Neiafu, the main town on the island. From Neiafu, take the main road heading north towards the Vava'u International Airport. Continue on this road for about 15 minutes. Look for signs directing you to Ha'atafu Beach. You will turn left onto a smaller road just before reaching the airport. Follow this road, which will lead you directly to Ha'atafu Beach. There is no entry fee for the beach, but ensure your vehicle has adequate fuel as fuel stations may be limited.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, find a local bus or taxi service from Neiafu to Ha'atafu Beach. The buses are usually marked with their destination, so look for one that indicates Ha'atafu. The fare is relatively inexpensive, typically around 5-10 Tongan Paʻanga. The journey will take approximately 20-30 minutes depending on the number of stops. Inform the driver of your destination, and they will drop you off at the entrance to the beach. There is no entry fee to access Ha'atafu Beach.
Bicycle Rental
Another great way to reach Ha'atafu Beach is by renting a bicycle. Many shops in Neiafu offer bicycles for rent. From Neiafu, cycle north along the main road towards the airport. This journey is approximately 10 km and will take about 40-60 minutes, depending on your cycling speed. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow traffic rules. Once you reach the turn-off for Ha'atafu Beach, simply follow the signs to the beach. There are no fees for entering the beach.
