Car
If you are driving from the nearby town of Medenine, take the Route Nationale 1 (RN1) heading south. After approximately 30 kilometers, you will reach a junction; take the left turn onto the Route 112 (RN112) toward Douiret. Continue on this road for about 15 kilometers until you see signs for Douiret. Gîte Douiret is located at the address V79P+6W4, Douiret. Look for the distinctive traditional architecture as you approach the Gîte.
Public Transportation
To reach Gîte Douiret using public transport, take a shared taxi (known locally as a 'louage') from Medenine to the village of Douiret. The journey will take about 45 minutes and cost around 5-10 Tunisian Dinars (TND). Once you arrive in Douiret, the Gîte is about a 10-minute walk from the drop-off point. Follow the main road through the village, and ask locals for directions if needed. Gîte Douiret is well-known, so most residents will be able to guide you.
Combination of Car and Hiking
If you are adventurous and already in the Dahar Mountains, consider driving to a nearby viewpoint or trailhead and hiking the remaining distance to Gîte Douiret. You can park at the scenic overlook called 'El Ghriba' and hike approximately 4 kilometers along the marked trails that lead down to Douiret. The hike offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, but make sure to wear appropriate footwear and bring water.
