Car
If you're traveling by car, start your journey from the center of Maçka. Head southwest on the İkizler Street towards the D885 highway. Turn right onto the D885 and follow the signs for Sümela Monastery. After about 10 kilometers, you'll see a sign directing you to turn left towards Altındere Valley National Park. Continue on this road for approximately 5 kilometers until you reach the parking area near the monastery. Please note that there is a parking fee of around 10 TL for cars.
Public Transportation
From the center of Trabzon, take a minibus (dolmuş) towards Maçka. The fare is about 15 TL per person. Once you reach Maçka, you can catch another dolmuş that goes specifically to Sümela Monastery. The fare for this second leg is approximately 10 TL. The dolmuş will drop you off at the entrance to Altındere Valley National Park. From there, you will need to walk approximately 1.5 kilometers uphill to reach the monastery. Be prepared for a moderate hike, and ensure you're wearing comfortable shoes.
