Getting There

  • Public Transport - Tram

    If you are near Taksim Square, take the Taksim funicular down to Kabatas, then board the Tram (T1 line) towards Bagcilar. Get off at the Sultanahmet stop. From there, walk towards the Basilica Cistern, which is located on Sultan Ahmet Nakilbent Sok. No:13, just a short 5-minute walk. Follow signs towards the Hagia Sophia, and you will find the entrance to the Cistern nearby.

  • Public Transport - Metro and Tram

    From any metro station in Istanbul, take the M2 metro line towards Yenikapı. Get off at the Vezneciler station, then transfer to the Tram (T1 line) at the Laleli-Üniversite stop. Board the Tram towards Bagcilar and get off at the Sultanahmet stop. Walk for about 5 minutes towards Sultan Ahmet Nakilbent Sok. No:13 to reach the Basilica Cistern.

    If you are already in the Sultanahmet area, simply walk towards the Hagia Sophia. The Basilica Cistern is located just behind it. As you approach, look for the entrance on Sultan Ahmet Nakilbent Sok. No:13. The walk should take no more than 10 minutes from any point in Sultanahmet.
