Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the nearest major city, Turkmenabat. From there, head south on the A-1 highway. After approximately 150 kilometers, take the exit toward Köýtendag. Once you reach the town of Köýtendag, follow the signs toward the Köýtendag Nature Reserve. The road will be unpaved and may require a 4WD vehicle as it gets closer to the mountains. After entering the reserve, navigate toward the Kozly-Dag area using a local map or GPS. The last stretch will involve driving on rocky paths, so take your time and ensure you have enough fuel and supplies.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Khrebet Kozly-Dag using public transportation, take a bus or shared taxi from Ashgabat to Turkmenabat. The journey takes about 6 hours. From Turkmenabat, you can catch a minibus (marshrutka) to Köýtendag. The minibus ride will take around 2 hours. Upon arrival in Köýtendag, you may need to hire a local taxi to take you closer to the Kozly-Dag area, as public transport does not directly service the mountainous region. Ensure you negotiate the fare beforehand, as there may not be a fixed rate.

• Hiking

  After reaching the Kozly-Dag area, prepare for a hiking trip to Khrebet Kozly-Dag. Make sure you have appropriate hiking gear, plenty of water, and food supplies. The hike may take around 2-3 hours depending on your pace. Follow local trails and markers; it's advisable to hire a local guide if you're unfamiliar with the terrain. Always check weather conditions before heading out, as the mountains can be unpredictable.
