Hi, I'm Eve. Here are a few practical things to know before exploring Lake Mburo Safaris.
Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are driving, start from the nearest major town in Ankole, such as Mbarara. Head southeast on the B83 road towards Kiruhura. Continue on this road for approximately 30 kilometers. You will see signs directing you to Lake Mburo National Park. Once you reach the park entrance, follow the signs to Lake Mburo Safaris, which is located near the park's main gate. Keep an eye out for local wildlife along the way, as this area is rich in biodiversity.
Public Transportation
For those traveling by public transport, take a taxi or bus from Mbarara to Kiruhura. Buses frequently leave from the Mbarara bus terminal. The journey should take about 45 minutes to an hour, and the fare is approximately 5,000 UGX. Once in Kiruhura, you can either hire a boda boda (motorcycle taxi) or a local taxi for a short ride to Lake Mburo Safaris, which is about 10 kilometers away from the town center. Expect to pay around 10,000 UGX for the boda boda ride.
Combination of Car and Boda Boda
If you have access to a car but prefer not to drive all the way, consider driving to Kiruhura and parking in town. From there, hire a boda boda to take you to Lake Mburo Safaris. This method allows you to avoid the more challenging parts of the road while still enjoying the flexibility of having a vehicle. Parking options may be available in Kiruhura, but it's advisable to confirm with local establishments before leaving your car.
