Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are driving, start from Kampala and head east on the Jinja Road (A-4). After approximately 55 km, take the exit towards the B-5 road signposted for Iganga. Continue on the B-5 for about 25 km until you reach the turn-off for Kagulu, which is marked. Follow the signs towards Kagulu Rock, and you will arrive at the base of the rock. Note that some roads may be unpaved, so a vehicle with good clearance is recommended.
Public Transport
From Kampala, you can take a bus or a matatu (shared taxi) to Jinja. Once in Jinja, look for a matatu heading to Iganga. Inform the driver or conductor that you want to get off at the Kagulu turn-off. After disembarking, you may need to hire a motorcycle taxi (boda-boda) to reach the base of Kagulu Rock. Expect to pay around 10,000 to 15,000 UGX for the boda-boda ride. Be sure to negotiate the fare beforehand.
Boda-Boda from Kagulu Town
If you are already in Kagulu Town, you can hire a boda-boda to take you directly to Kagulu Rock. The ride should cost around 5,000 to 10,000 UGX, depending on your negotiation skills and the distance. Ensure you agree on the price before starting your journey.
Use Kagulu Rock as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
