Getting There

• Car

  If you are travelling by car, start on the Kampala-Jinja Highway (A-5). This is a major road that connects the capital, Kampala, to Jinja. Drive approximately 80 kilometers until you reach Jinja. Upon entering Jinja, follow the signs to the Source of the Nile. Once you reach the roundabout near the Jinja Bridge, take the first exit onto Nile Crescent. Continue straight for about 2 kilometers. The Source of the Nile will be on your left near the banks of the river. There is usually parking available nearby, but be prepared for a fee, which can vary from UGX 1,000 to UGX 5,000 depending on the area you park.

• Public Transportation (Matatu)

  For those using public transportation, head to any major bus park in Kampala and look for a Matatu (shared taxi) heading to Jinja. The fare ranges from UGX 5,000 to UGX 10,000 depending on the provider. The journey typically takes about 2-3 hours. Once you arrive in Jinja, you can either take a taxi or a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) to the Source of the Nile. Boda-boda rides to the Source will cost around UGX 3,000 to UGX 5,000.

• Private Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct option, you can hire a private taxi from Kampala to Jinja. The cost for this service ranges from UGX 80,000 to UGX 150,000, depending on the negotiation and the type of vehicle. The driver will take you directly to the Source of the Nile, following the same route as if you were driving yourself. This option is more comfortable and faster, especially if you are traveling with luggage.

• Boda-Boda from Jinja Town

  If you are already in Jinja town, you can hire a boda-boda to take you to the Source of the Nile. This is a quick and efficient way to travel short distances in Uganda. The fare is usually around UGX 3,000 to UGX 5,000. Just ensure to negotiate the price beforehand and confirm that the driver knows the destination.
