If you're traveling by car from any location in West Nile, start by heading towards the town of Arua. Follow the main road (Arua-Kamdini Road) southeast until you reach the junction at Kamdini. From there, continue on the Gulu Highway towards Gulu. After approximately 40 kilometers, you will see signs for Murchison Falls National Park. Turn onto the road leading to the park entrance. The drive from Arua to Murchison Falls takes around 3-4 hours. Make sure to have cash for the park entrance fee, which is approximately 40,000 UGX for Ugandans and 150,000 UGX for foreign visitors.
Public Transportation
To reach Murchison Falls via public transport, start by taking a taxi or a boda boda to the Arua Bus Station. From there, you can board a bus heading towards Gulu. These buses typically leave every hour and the journey to Gulu takes about 2-3 hours. Once in Gulu, look for a shared taxi or a minibus that goes to Masindi. This ride usually takes about 1.5 hours. Upon reaching Masindi, you will find taxis that can take you directly to the park entrance. The total cost for public transportation may vary, but budget around 20,000 UGX for the bus from Arua to Gulu, 15,000 UGX for Gulu to Masindi, and around 30,000 UGX for the taxi to the park.
Combination (Car & Boat)
If you wish to combine a scenic boat ride with your trip to Murchison Falls, you can drive or take public transport to the Paraa Ferry Crossing after reaching Masindi. From Masindi, follow signs to the ferry point. The boat ride on the Nile offers breathtaking views and allows you to see wildlife along the riverbanks. The ferry operates regularly, and the cost is approximately 20,000 UGX per person. After crossing, you can directly access the park and start your adventure at Murchison Falls.
