Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving, start from Fort Portal, which is a central location in the Western Region. Head east on the A109 road towards Kasese. After approximately 20 kilometers, take the exit towards the Rwenzori Mountains National Park. Continue on this road for about 10 kilometers until you reach the junction with the Bwamba Pass road. Turn left onto Bwamba Pass road and drive for another 15 kilometers. You will start to see signs for Mponwe River. Follow the signs for the last few kilometers until you reach the river. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel as there are limited gas stations along the way.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Mponwe River via public transport, take a taxi or bus from Fort Portal to Kasese. These taxis leave regularly from the main taxi park. The journey takes about 45 minutes to an hour, and you should expect to pay around 10,000 UGX. Once in Kasese, you can take a local boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) to Mponwe River. The boda-boda ride will take approximately 30 minutes, and the fare is about 5,000 UGX. Make sure to agree on the fare before starting your journey.

    If you are already in the vicinity of the river, you can hire a boda-boda from nearby towns. Inquire with locals for trusted drivers who can take you directly to Mponwe River.
