Car
If you are driving, start from the nearest town, Aberdare. Take the A4059 road towards Hirwaun. Once you reach Hirwaun, turn onto the A465 (the Heads of the Valleys Road) heading towards Merthyr Tydfil. After approximately 4 miles, take the exit towards the A470, then follow signs for Ystradfellte. Porth yr Ogof is located just off the A4061 road. Look for the small parking area on your left before you reach the village of Ystradfellte. Note that parking may incur a small fee, typically around £2-£5 for the day.

Public Transportation
To reach Porth yr Ogof via public transport, take a train to Merthyr Tydfil from Cardiff Central Station. From Merthyr Tydfil, board the Brecon Bus (Service 43) towards Brecon. Get off at the Ystradfellte stop. From there, it’s about a 20-minute walk to Porth yr Ogof. Follow the signs to the caves, which will guide you along the path. Make sure to check the bus schedule ahead of time, as services may be limited, especially on weekends.

If you are already in the vicinity and prefer to walk, there are several trails leading to Porth yr Ogof from nearby areas, such as the village of Ystradfellte. From Ystradfellte, head southwest on the A4061 road, and take the footpath that leads you directly to the caves. This walk takes approximately 30 minutes and offers scenic views of the surrounding countryside.
