The Castle Inn stands on the eastern side of Castle Street, a short walk north of the city centre. The two-storey brick building presents a traditional pub frontage with signage visible from the pavement. Inside, the ground floor is divided into a main bar area and a secondary room separated by a central servery. Wooden tables and bench seating occupy most of the floor space. A small outdoor yard at the rear provides additional seating during warmer months.

The bar maintains a changing selection of cask ales from regional breweries alongside standard lagers and bottled options. A short food menu focuses on pub classics such as pies, burgers and sandwiches. Orders are placed at the bar and delivered to tables. No table service is offered.

The pub opens at midday every day. Weekday afternoons are generally quiet with a mix of local residents and workers stopping in for a drink. Evenings see a gradual increase in numbers, peaking between 18:00 and 21:00. Sunday hours end earlier at 18:00, resulting in lower overall footfall.

The entrance is level with the pavement and presents no steps. Castle Street carries moderate traffic but includes pedestrian crossings nearby. Visitors arriving by bus can alight at the nearby Histon Road stop and walk south for five minutes. On-street parking is limited and subject to resident permit restrictions.

The interior remains functional rather than styled for photographs. Sound levels rise in the evening but stay within normal pub ranges. Card payments are accepted at the bar. The venue does not host live music or ticketed events on a regular basis.
