Chester Town Hall stands as a magnificent example of Victorian Gothic Revival architecture, designed by William Henry Lynn of Belfast and completed between 1864 and 1869. Built primarily of red and grey sandstone, the building’s symmetrical facade features ten bays and a central tower rising approximately 160 feet. This imposing civic structure replaced an earlier Exchange building that was destroyed by fire in 1862. The Town Hall was officially opened on October 15, 1869, by the then Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, marking a significant moment in Chester’s urban history.
