St John Sepulchre, also known as St John the Theologian, is one of Norwich's medieval churches, located in the independent parish of South Conesford. Furthest from the castle and cathedral, it served a vibrant community until population shifts to nearby Lakenham led to its decline. Declared redundant in 1970 after the Brooke Report, it had earlier hosted an Orthodox congregation until 2009.[1][5]

The church features typical East Anglian elements, including a good rural-style font. Underwent significant 19th-century restoration in 1866, with few medieval survivals inside due to later changes. Lime-washed internally, it retains chancel fittings while nave pews were removed. A reredos by John Oldrid Scott is now behind the iconostasis.[1][5]

In 2017, it transformed into The Flint Rooms, a civil wedding and ceremonies venue. This adaptive reuse preserves its flint-built structure while opening it for contemporary events. A major conservation project was planned for 2019/20 to safeguard its future.[1]

Historical records show active baptisms from 1813-1880, reflecting growth in New Lakenham suburbs. Parish registers date back to 1632, covering baptisms, marriages, banns, and burials through the 19th century, highlighting its role in local genealogy.[2][6]

Situated at 177 Ber St, Norwich NR1 3HB, near inner suburbs amid former housing now mixed with businesses. Its position outside the medieval center contributed to both its community strength and eventual redundancy as urban patterns changed.[1][5]
