A Woodland Legacy on the Isle of Mull

Aros Park occupies the grounds of the former Aros estate, once owned by the Allan family from 1874 until 1959. Though the original estate house was demolished, remnants such as the generator shed and an artificial lochan remain, telling stories of the park’s historic past. The lochan was created both as a landscape feature and a power source for the estate’s mill. Today, the park is managed by Forestry and Land Scotland and serves as a recreational woodland preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the area.

The trails wind through temperate rainforest-like woodlands dense with ferns, rhododendrons, and native trees such as beech, oak, and cypress. The waterfalls trail follows the Aros Burn, leading to two spectacular cascades framed by lush vegetation. The upper falls are easily accessible from the car park, while the lower falls drop into a deep gorge with stunning views across Tobermory Bay. The lochan trail is a gentle, wheelchair-accessible circuit around the tranquil artificial lake.
