If you are traveling by car, start by taking Route 9 (Ruta 9) heading east from any location in the Central Region. Continue on Route 9 until you reach the junction with Route 15 (Ruta 15) in the direction of La Paloma. Follow Route 15 until you see signs for Cabo Polonio. Note that the last part of the journey requires driving on a gravel road (Ruta 104) for about 10 km. Parking is available at the entrance to Cabo Polonio National Park, where you will need to leave your car.

By Bus
If you prefer public transportation, take a bus from Montevideo to the town of Barra de Valizas. Buses run regularly from Terminal Tres Cruces in Montevideo. Once you arrive in Barra de Valizas, look for the local 4x4 vehicles that operate to Cabo Polonio. The fare for the 4x4 ride is approximately $10-15 USD one way, and it lasts around 30 minutes. The 4x4 vehicles are necessary as they can navigate the sandy terrain leading to Cabo Polonio.
