Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the Island in the Sky Visitor Center, which is approximately 30 miles north of Moab. Head south on UT-191 for about 20 miles until you reach the junction with UT-279. Turn left onto UT-279 and continue for about 5 miles. Look for the Jug Handle Arch trailhead on your left. There's a small parking area available. Please note that a fee may be required for park access, usually around $30 per vehicle for a 7-day pass.
Public Transportation
If you're relying on public transportation, you can take the Moab Area Transit (MAT) service from downtown Moab to the Canyonlands National Park. The MAT operates during the peak season and can drop you off at various points in the park, including the Island in the Sky Visitor Center. From there, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to get to UT-279 to access the Jug Handle Arch trailhead, as public transit does not go directly to the arch. Plan for additional costs for the taxi or rideshare, which can vary depending on the distance.
Hiking
Once you arrive at the Jug Handle Arch trailhead, prepare for a short hike. The trail is approximately 1.5 miles round trip and is relatively easy, making it accessible for most visitors. Follow the trail markers towards the arch, enjoying the scenic views along the way. Be sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and carry plenty of water, especially during warmer months.
