Car
If you're driving, start from the town of Moab, Utah. Head east on Main Street from the center of Moab for about 1 mile until you reach the intersection with US-191. Turn left onto US-191 and continue for about 4 miles. Look for the signs for Sand Flats Road, which will be on your right. Turn onto Sand Flats Road, and follow it for approximately 3 miles. The road will become gravel, so drive carefully. Keep an eye out for the Lion's Back parking area on your left, where you can park your vehicle.
Public Transportation
Public transportation options in Moab are limited, but there are shuttle services that may offer rides to Sand Flats Road. Check with local shuttle companies for availability. If you manage to find a shuttle service, inform the driver that you want to go to Lion's Back on Sand Flats Road. Once you arrive at Sand Flats Road, you may need to walk approximately 1 mile from the nearest drop-off point to reach the Lion's Back viewpoint.
Biking
For the adventurous, biking is a great option. You can rent a mountain bike in Moab and head to Sand Flats Road. From Moab, cycle east on Main Street, then turn onto US-191 as previously mentioned. You can access Sand Flats Road by bike; however, be prepared for some uphill sections. Once on Sand Flats Road, follow the signs to Lion's Back. The ride will take about 30-45 minutes depending on your fitness level.
Hiking
If you're already in the Sand Flats Recreation Area and would like to hike to Lion's Back, you can follow the established trails. Start at the Sand Flats Recreation Area entrance (there is a fee of about $5 per vehicle for day use). Follow the signs for the Lion's Back trailhead, which is well-marked. It’s a short but steep hike from the trailhead to the top of Lion's Back, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
