If you're starting your journey in the main town of Pentecost, you can rent a car from local agencies. Once you have a vehicle, head northeast on the main road (Route 1) towards the village of Lavaturo. The drive will take approximately 30 minutes. Keep an eye out for signs indicating the local attractions, as they can guide you to key stops along the way. Ensure to fill up on fuel in the town, as gas stations are limited on the island.
Public Transportation (Bus)
For those without a vehicle, public transportation is available via local buses. Head to the bus station in Pentecost town, where you can catch a bus heading towards Lavaturo. Buses typically leave every hour, and the fare is around 200 Vatu (approx. $2 USD). The bus will take you along the main road and drop you off at the entrance of Lavaturo, from where you can walk to the destination.
Walking from Lavaturo
Once you arrive at Lavaturo, the destination is a short walk away. Head east along the main road, following any signs that indicate the site’s direction. The walk should take about 15-20 minutes. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as the terrain can be uneven in parts.
Motorbike Rental
Another option for exploring Pentecost is to rent a motorbike. Various rental shops are available in the town. After renting, follow the same route as you would for a car rental towards Lavaturo. Riding a motorbike will allow you to navigate the roads quickly and efficiently. The rental cost is usually around 1,500 Vatu (approx. $15 USD) per day.
