From the Apostolic Palace, exit the building and head towards the main entrance of St. Peter's Basilica. Once you are outside, you will find yourself in Piazza San Pietro (St. Peter's Square). Walk straight across the square towards the Basilica's main entrance. Keep an eye out for signs directing you to the Vatican Necropolis, as they will lead you to the entrance of the necropolis located beneath the basilica. The entrance is usually through a small door on the right side of the basilica, near the colonnades.
