Walking
To get to the Pontifical Sanctuary of the Holy Stairs from the Sistine Chapel, exit the chapel and walk back towards St. Peter's Basilica. Once you reach the main square (Piazza San Pietro), head towards the entrance of the Vatican Museums. Continue straight toward Via della Conciliazione. At the end of this street, cross the Tiber River using the Ponte Sant'Angelo bridge. After crossing the bridge, turn right onto Lungotevere, and follow this along the river. You will eventually reach the intersection of Via di San Giovanni in Laterano. Turn left onto Via di San Giovanni in Laterano, and continue straight until you reach the Piazza di San Giovanni in Laterano. The Holy Stairs will be located at the address provided.
