Getting There

  • Walking

    From the entrance of Vatican Gardens, head towards the main exit gate and exit onto Viale Vaticano. Once outside, turn right and walk along Viale Vaticano until you reach the junction with Via di Porta Angelica. Here, continue straight ahead onto Via di Porta Angelica which will lead you directly towards Castel Sant'Angelo. Keep walking straight; you will pass by a few cafes and shops. After about 15 minutes of walking, you will see Castel Sant'Angelo on your left. The address is Lungotevere Castello, 50.

    If you are closer to the exit of the Vatican Museums, exit the Museums and walk towards the main road, Viale Vaticano. From there, turn left and walk towards the Tiber River. As you reach the river, you will see Castel Sant'Angelo directly ahead. It should take you about 10-15 minutes to walk from the Vatican Museums to the castle.

    If you are at St. Peter's Basilica, exit the Basilica and head towards the colonnade. Walk straight down, passing through the square, and head towards the entrance to the Vatican Gardens. After enjoying the gardens, exit back onto Viale Vaticano, turn right, and follow the previous directions to Castel Sant'Angelo.
