Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the main entrance of Assateague Island National Seashore, located at 7206 National Seashore Lane, Berlin, MD 21811. Head southeast on National Seashore Lane and follow the signs toward the park. After entering the park, continue along the main road, following signs for the beach areas. You will pass various access points and facilities. Keep an eye out for the signs directing you to 6 Mile Beach, which is located toward the southern end of the island. The drive from the entrance to 6 Mile Beach takes approximately 20-30 minutes. Please note that there is an entrance fee of $25 per vehicle, valid for 7 days.

Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, the closest major transportation hub is in Ocean City, MD. From there, take the Beach Bus (Route 1) which runs during the summer season. You will need to get off at the Assateague Island Visitor Center stop. From the Visitor Center, there is no direct public transport to 6 Mile Beach, so you will have to either walk or bike (bike rentals are available at the Visitor Center). Walking to 6 Mile Beach will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, so plan accordingly. Alternatively, you may consider using a rideshare service for the last leg of your journey.

If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike at the Assateague Island Visitor Center. After renting, head south along the main road, following the path toward the beach. The ride to 6 Mile Beach from the Visitor Center will take about 30-40 minutes. Make sure to stay on designated paths and be aware of park regulations regarding biking. This is a great way to enjoy the scenery along the way.
