Car
If you're driving to Pony Overlook, start from the Assateague Island National Seashore entrance. Head northeast on Assateague Island Road (Route 611) and continue straight for about 9 miles. The road will take you towards Chincoteague Island. Once you reach the intersection with Maddox Boulevard, turn left. Continue on Maddox Boulevard until you see a right turn for Woodland Trail. Follow Woodland Trail for approximately 1.5 miles. Pony Overlook will be on your left. There is no parking fee at this location.

Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, you will first need to take a bus or shuttle from your location in Assateague Island to Chincoteague Island. Most local hotels and attractions offer shuttle services. Once you arrive at Chincoteague, you can either walk or take a taxi to Woodland Trail. If walking, head east on Maddox Boulevard and turn left onto Woodland Trail. Continue walking for about 1.5 miles, and Pony Overlook will be on your left. Be sure to check the local shuttle schedules as they may vary.

For those who enjoy biking, you can rent a bicycle in Assateague Island. Start by heading north on Assateague Island Road, then follow the same route as cars to Chincoteague Island. Once you reach Maddox Boulevard, make a left and then take a right onto Woodland Trail. The ride is approximately 11 miles from the entrance of Assateague Island, so make sure to plan your time accordingly, and wear a helmet for safety. Bicycling is free of charge, but bike rentals may have costs associated.
