Car
If you're traveling by car, start on US-221 S from any location in Blue Ridge Highlands. Follow US-221 S to the junction with VA-43 S. Merge onto VA-43 S and drive for approximately 12 miles. Turn left onto Sharp Top Road (there will be signs for Sharp Top Mountain). Follow Sharp Top Road until you reach the Sharp Top Mountain Trailhead parking area. Note that parking is free, but it can fill up quickly during peak tourist seasons.
Public Transportation + Car
For those relying on public transportation, take a bus from your location in Blue Ridge Highlands to the nearest town with bus services, such as Bedford, VA. From Bedford, you will need to use a rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft) or rent a car to reach the Sharp Top Mountain Trailhead. The drive from Bedford to the trailhead is about 25 minutes. Confirm the availability of rideshare services in the area beforehand, as they can be limited.
Bicycle
If you're adventurous and want to bike to the trailhead, ensure you have a suitable road bike for hilly terrain. Start on US-221 S and then take VA-43 S. The ride is approximately 12 miles and can be quite challenging due to elevation changes. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow all traffic laws. There may not be designated bike lanes, so be cautious while riding.
