Getting There

  • Public Bus

    To reach the Humpback Rocks Visitor Center and Picnic Area from Charlottesville, start by heading to the Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) bus stop. You can catch the Route 7 bus towards 'University of Virginia' and get off at the 'Rugby Road' stop. From there, transfer to the Route 10 bus heading towards 'Waynesboro'. Stay on the bus until you arrive at the 'Waynesboro Transit Center'. Once you get off, walk to the nearby stop for the 'Blue Ridge Parkway Shuttle', which will take you to Milepost 5.8. The Visitor Center will be a short walk from the shuttle stop.

  • Bicycle Rental

    If you prefer to bike, rent a bicycle from one of the local bike shops in downtown Charlottesville, such as 'Blue Wheel Bicycles'. From there, head north on 5th Street to connect with the Rivanna Trail. Follow the trail until you reach the intersection with Route 250. Turn right onto Route 250 and continue until you reach the entrance of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Once you are on the Parkway, follow the signs for Milepost 5.8, where the Humpback Rocks Visitor Center and Picnic Area is located.

    If you're feeling adventurous and want to walk, you can start from the downtown area of Charlottesville. Head west on Main Street until you reach 5th Street. Continue walking on 5th Street until you hit Route 250. From there, you’ll need to walk along Route 250 heading west. Be cautious as this is a busy road. After about 6 miles, you will see the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Once on the Parkway, follow the signs to Milepost 5.8 where the Visitor Center is located. It’s a long walk, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
