    From Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, head south on US-17 S toward I-64 E. Merge onto I-64 E and continue for about 30 miles. Take exit 282 for US-58 E toward Virginia Beach. Merge onto US-58 E and follow it for approximately 10 miles. Take the exit for Sandbridge Rd, then turn right onto Sandbridge Rd. Continue for 3 miles until you reach the intersection with Sandpiper Rd. Turn left onto Sandpiper Rd, and Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge will be on your right at 4005 Sandpiper Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23456.

    If you are traveling by public transportation, you can take a bus from the nearest station in Suffolk or Chesapeake to Virginia Beach. Use the Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) service, which operates routes to Virginia Beach. Once you arrive at the Virginia Beach Town Center, you will need to catch the Route 24 bus towards Sandbridge. After about a 30-minute ride, get off at the Sandbridge Rd and Sandpiper Rd stop. From there, it is about a 15-minute walk (0.7 miles) to Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Follow Sandpiper Rd directly to the refuge entrance at 4005 Sandpiper Rd.
