Getting There

• Bicycle

  Start at the downtown area of Lynchburg, specifically at the corner of 9th Street and Main Street. From there, head west on Main Street until you reach the intersection with 5th Street. Turn left onto 5th Street and continue to follow it as it becomes 5th Street Extension. After about a mile, you'll reach a bike path on the right that leads towards the James River. Follow the bike path until you reach the Riverwalk Trail, which will lead you directly to Percival's Island Natural Area. The entrance will be clearly marked, and you can explore the island's scenic trails and wildlife.

• Walking

  If you're walking from downtown Lynchburg, begin at the Main Street Bridge. Cross the bridge to reach the Riverwalk Trailhead. Once on the trail, follow the path along the James River for about 1.5 miles until you reach Percival's Island. The natural area is accessible from the trail, and you will find various paths to explore once you arrive.

• Public Transit

  Take the local bus service from downtown Lynchburg. Board the bus at the nearest stop on Main Street that services the route towards the Madison Heights area. Request a stop near the intersection of Concord Turnpike and Route 29. From there, you can walk approximately 0.5 miles down Concord Turnpike until you reach the entrance to Percival's Island Natural Area.
