Getting There

• Car

  From Assateague Island, head northwest on Assateague Island Access Road (Route 611) toward the intersection with Route 175. Turn left onto Route 175 and continue to follow it as it leads you toward Chincoteague. After approximately 8 miles, you will enter the town of Chincoteague. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Main Street. Turn right onto Main Street and follow it until you see signs directing you to Chincoteague Beach. Continue on Beach Access Road for about 2 miles until you reach the beach access point at 8274 Beach Access Rd, Chincoteague, VA 23336. There is a parking fee of $10 per vehicle for access to the beach.

  If you are using public transportation, start by taking a local bus service that connects Assateague Island to Chincoteague. Look for the Chincoteague Island Shuttle, which operates seasonally. The nearest stop to Assateague is typically at the entrance of the Assateague Island National Seashore. You will need to confirm the schedule in advance, as services may be limited. Once you arrive in Chincoteague, you can either walk or take a short taxi ride to Chincoteague Beach at 8274 Beach Access Rd. Be prepared for possible costs associated with the shuttle fare, which can range from $5 to $10 depending on the route.
