Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Public Bus
To reach First Landing State Park from the Oceanfront area, you can take the public bus operated by Hampton Roads Transit (HRT). Start by finding the nearest bus stop along Atlantic Avenue. Look for Route 20 or 30, which both travel towards the park. The bus fare is $2.00 for a single ride. Make sure to have exact change or a HRT pass ready. Ride the bus until you reach the stop at Shore Drive and First Landing State Park, which is approximately a 20-30 minute ride depending on traffic.
Bicycle
For those looking for a more active option, consider renting a bicycle. Many bike rental shops are available along the Oceanfront. Once you have a bike, head east on the boardwalk, then take the designated bike paths towards Shore Drive. Continue on Shore Drive until you reach First Landing State Park, which is located at 2500 Shore Dr. The ride is roughly 3-4 miles and will take around 15-20 minutes. Remember to wear a helmet and follow local biking regulations.
Walking
If you're up for a scenic walk, you can walk from the Oceanfront to First Landing State Park. Start by heading west on Atlantic Avenue until you reach the intersection with Shore Drive. Turn left (south) onto Shore Drive and follow it for about 1.5 miles. The walk will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Enjoy the beautiful views along the way, and be mindful of traffic as you walk along the road.
