Bus
From downtown Bellingham, head to the Bellingham Station at 401 Harris Ave. Take the 'Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA)' bus route 232 towards Glacier. This bus has a scheduled stop at 'Picture Lake.' Make sure to check the bus schedule for the exact times as they may vary. The journey should take about 1 hour. Once you arrive at Picture Lake, follow the signs to the lake area.
Bicycle
Rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops in downtown Bellingham. Head east on Holly St towards the South Bay Trail. Continue on the South Bay Trail until you reach the intersection with Lake Samish Rd. Turn left and follow Lake Samish Rd to Mount Baker Highway/WA-542. Continue on WA-542 until you reach Picture Lake. This ride is about 18 miles and can take approximately 2 hours depending on your pace.
Walking
If you are adventurous and want to hike, you can start from downtown Bellingham and make your way to Picture Lake on foot. Take the trail via the South Bay Trail, which connects to the Mount Baker Highway. It is a long trek of about 18 miles and will take several hours. Ensure you have appropriate gear and plenty of water, as the walk is quite demanding.
