Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest major city, Bellingham, WA. Head east on WA-542, which will take you directly towards the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Continue on WA-542 for about 30 miles. You will eventually reach the Chain Lakes Loop Trailhead, which is located on WA-542 at approximately latitude 48.8463054 and longitude -121.6937912. Look for the parking area on the right side of the road. There is no entrance fee for the trailhead, but make sure to arrive early as parking can fill up quickly.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from Bellingham to Glacier, WA via the Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA). Once you reach Glacier, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to reach the Chain Lakes Loop Trailhead, as public transport does not go directly there. Be sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as service may be limited, especially on weekends and holidays. The cost for the bus ride is typically around $2.00-$3.00.
