Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the nearest major town, which is Castle Rock, WA. From Castle Rock, take I-5 N and merge onto WA-504 E. Follow WA-504 E for about 30 miles until you reach the Mount St. Helens Visitor Center. Here you can get additional information and permits if needed, and the center has parking available. From the Visitor Center, continue on WA-504 E for about 12 miles to reach the Johnston Ridge Observatory, which offers stunning views of the volcano.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, you will have to take a bus from Portland, OR to Castle Rock, WA. The Greyhound or Amtrak services can get you there. Once in Castle Rock, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to take you to the Mount St. Helens Visitor Center.
