If you are starting from downtown La Crosse, walk north on 3rd Street towards Main Street. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Cass Street. Turn left on Cass Street and walk until you reach the intersection with 4th Street. Turn right onto 4th Street and continue straight until you reach the intersection with La Crosse Street. From there, follow La Crosse Street as it curves to the right, continuing on to the Hixon Forest Trailhead entrance, which will be on your left.

Begin at Riverside Park, located along the Mississippi River. Head north on the bike path that runs parallel to the river. As you reach the intersection with 3rd Street, turn left and follow 3rd Street until you hit Main Street. Then, turn left onto Main Street and continue until you reach Cass Street. Turn right on Cass Street, and then turn right on 4th Street. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with La Crosse Street. Follow La Crosse Street until you see the entrance to Hixon Forest on your left.
