Walking

If you're in downtown Madison, start at the Wisconsin State Capitol building located at 2 E Main St, Madison, WI 53703. Head south on S Carroll St toward E Main St, and continue walking for about 0.4 miles until you reach W Washington Ave. Turn left onto W Washington Ave and walk for another 0.3 miles. When you reach S Randall Ave, turn right. Henry Vilas Zoo will be on your left at 702 S Randall Ave.
Public Bus

From downtown Madison, you can take the Metro Transit bus route 5 (the 'South' route). Board the bus at the stop nearest to the Wisconsin State Capitol (stop ID: 1365). Ride the bus for about 10-15 minutes, depending on traffic, and get off at the 'Randall Ave & Vilas Zoo' stop. From there, it's just a short walk south on S Randall Ave, and you will arrive at Henry Vilas Zoo located at 702 S Randall Ave.
