Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the center of the Black Hills region. Take US-16 W towards Custer and then merge onto US-385 N. Continue on this road until you reach the junction with US-16 E. Take US-16 E towards Rapid City, and then merge onto I-90 W. Follow I-90 W for about 30 miles until you reach the exit for WY-14 W. Continue on WY-14 W, which becomes WY-16 W, and follow signs for Yellowstone National Park. You will need to pay an entrance fee to enter the park, which is around $35 per vehicle for a 7-day pass. Once inside the park, follow the signs to Petrified Tree, located near the northeast section of Yellowstone National Park.

If you prefer public transportation, take the local shuttle service from Rapid City or Custer to Yellowstone National Park.
