If you are in Buffalo, Wyoming, head west on I-90 W toward Sheridan. Continue for about 30 miles. Take exit 56 toward US-87 S/US-16 W. Merge onto US-87 S and continue for about 25 miles. Turn right onto State Highway 387, which will lead you closer to the Historical Trail Site View Area. Follow the highway for about 10 miles, and then turn left onto a gravel road that leads directly to the view area. Remember to check your vehicle's clearance as some sections may be unpaved.

From Kaycee, Wyoming, drive north on State Highway 191 for about 15 miles. Turn right onto US-87 N and continue for about 10 miles. Turn left onto State Highway 387.
