A 40 minute drive from Glasgow takes us to the pretty conservation village of Luss situated on the western shore of Loch Lomond. With it's prim, identical sandstone and slate cottages, this is one of Scotland's most popular places to visit. With a pier that provides a sweeping view of the Loch and its surrounding Highland landscape, this is a great first stop.
Loch Tulla Viewpoint
A fascinating 58 minute drive north from Loch Lomond and we start to transition to a more remote and wilder landscape. We stop on the edge of Rannoch Moor with an epic view and a place to begin appreciating the scale of the empty landscape.
Rannoch Moor
Driving onto Rannoch Moor, we stop just 4 minutes later. Rannoch Moor is one of the last remaining wilderness areas in Europe, a vast area of bog, small lochs, rivers and rock outcrops. We stop at a viewpoint where, walking just 100 yards away from the road, we start to see this wilderness close up.
Kilchurn Castle
A 33 minute drive from Rannoch Moor and another sight to behold. Kilchurn Castle, built around 1450, this long abandoned castle is still very impressive, and its setting at the top of Loch Awe surrounded by Highland splendour is magnificent. There is a very good chance of seeing the resident Highland Cattle.
Inveraray
A 20 minute drive from Kilchurn Castle and we arrive in Inverary, on Loch Fyne. It's a very picturesque village on the western shore of Loch Fyne with coffee shops and restaurants. The village is in a quite peaceful and magnificent setting with Inverary Castle a five minute walk from the village.
Rest and be Thankful
A 20 minute drive from Inverary and we arrive at the famous pass called The Rest and Be Thankful sits 804 feet above sea level. It divides Glen Kinglas from Glen Croe. On top is a viewpoint with beautiful views in Glen Croe where you can clearly see the old valley road which was engineered by General Wade during the subjection of Scotland following the Jacobite rebellion. From here, the last leg of the tour is a 60 minute drive back to Glasgow.
