This 5-hour ride gives a wonderful cross-section of what Mt. Akagi and the surrounding areas have to offer. Starting in the lively little city of Maebashi, you'll make your way through the Torii and officially start your climb up Mt. Akagi. The rural farmland and forested mountain road make for a really scenic ride. Once at the top you'll see the awesome crater lake, Akagi Shine, and then have a chance for lunch. I had an amazing Tonkatsu rice bowl (that I still think about 2 weeks later). Then, all that's left is to bomb it down the mountain! As with every Akagi Trip tour, my guide was awesome. June was very attentive, always using hand signals and looking back to make sure I was still there and doing okay. She kept a fun dialogue flowing and was very informative about different sights that we passed. And importantly (for me), she kept up the pace and made the climb a great day of exercise! Try this ride, you won't be disappointed! Caveats: A general level of comfort cycling near vehicles is good for the more urban Maebashi section. Also, although it may not feel like it, the e-bike helps a lot. I noticed my pace was 3-4 mph faster than I can accomplish on climbs with my personal road bike. My legs definitely felt it, even with the e-bike on the highest setting, so I would probably recommend a basic level of fitness.

We start the tour from Maebashi station and head for Mt. Akagi.

Cycle to the top of Mt. Akagi. It's one of the most popular places for hill climbing. It sounds very hard, but e-bikes make it easier! The ride up is 22 km (13 miles), and takes about 2 hours. At the top we will go to a restaurant for lunch (included).
