The cave has stood strong amidst all the calamities that hit the town, making people consider it as a safe spot and using it as a make-shift evacuation center for the townspeople. Before that, it had become a refugee camp by Filipinos during the Japanese occupation in World War II as it was used as a hospital and orphanage at that time. Hoyop-Hoyopan cave also served as where partygoers stayed when the curfew was strictly imposed nationwide. More than a shelter, the Hoyop-Hoyopan cave has also become a place to visit for its scientific contribution where researchers traversed the inner layers of the cave that lasted up to 11 hours to trek.
