What to expect
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is built on a magnificent site alongside Alexandria's ancient harbor in the historic center of the city. The 11-story library can contain up to 4 million volumes of books, and can be expanded up to 8 million by the use of compact storage. In addition to the library facilities, the library also contains other cultural and educational functions including a planetarium, several museums, a school for information science, and conservation facilities. Characterized by its circular, tilting form, the building spans 160 meters in diameter and reaches up to 32 meters in height, while also diving some 12 meters into the ground.
The amphitheatre of Alexandria was discovered by coincidence in the year of 1960. When the Egyptian government was getting ready to set one its buildings in the area of kom El Dekka, one of the workers found solid column underneath the dust and sand during preparing the location by engineers. Immediately, an excavation team where down the location to examine what have been found. The Roman theatre was a very important discovery in the 20th century. It was proven that the theatre was built since the 4th A.D century and was used up until the 7th century passing by the Roman, byzantine and Islamic eras.
The catacombs of kom El shofaqa also known as the hill of treasure, regarded as a huge necropolis and royal cemetery that dates back to the second century AD. The necropolis has a unique mixture of Roman, Hellenistic and pharaonic art elements reflected in the paintings on the wall, and the style of the statues, funeral objects and tombs. The archaeological site was one of the seven wonders in the middle ages.

The museum was situated in a place built by one of Alexandria`s merchants in 1928 on the e modern Italian style (that was commonly used in decoration in the early ages of the past century ) . The palace was then owned by the ministry of culture converting it into a national museum for Alexandria .the museum contains 1800 monumental pieces representing Alexandria’s history. The museum is divided into 3 suites (floors), the first suite (the basement) is for the Pharaonic period, the second suite (the first floor) for the Graeco-Roman Islamic periods and modern ages till July’s revolution, in addition to other showrooms for lectures (enough for 150 person) and a laboratory for repairing and mending monuments
Royal Jewelry Museum, Alexandria
The Jewellery Museum is a two-story villa which belonged to Princess Fatma Al-Zahraa – a member of the Egyptian Royal family, which she decorated to her taste in 1920. The foyer is a grandiose affair with burgundy soft, deep carpets and carved, gilded ceilings. From here, a short flight of marble steps lead to the first floor. Portraits of all the royal descendants of the Mohamed Ali Dynasty (with a brief description) decorate the walls. Very little information is known about the life and history of Princess Fatma with the exception of her evident extraordinary taste in interior decoration.
