Bentota with River Safari, Waterfall, Temple and Teaplantation

We enjoyed a fantastic tour around Bentota in the comfort of an air conditioned car. The river safari was great. We saw lots of wildlife including water monitor, chameleon, crocodile (fresh water) and black monkeys. A highlight at the end of the tour was a delicious lunch in a local restaurant near the waterfall.

We wanted to do some activities in Ahungalla but not wanted to travel far as my wife is pregnant. We booked everything through Tony Sri Lanka Tours and they worked very professionally from the start. We booked Bentota Tour with Bentota river safari ,Big buddha temple, hidden waterfall and tea factory. It was a such a woundeful tour with our private guide and driver. We have learned a lot from our guide as he wss so informative. I highly recommened this tour for those who are staying in Ahungalla and bentota areas

Little Tony made our review Safari and Waterfall swim amazing, it was my husbands birthday and he he organised a surprise and the most delicious birthday cake and candles that we got to sing, and eat in the middle of the safari with the fauna and flora all around us, he even had the boat decorated with balloons and bunting. So knowledgeable and kind and took us through a real journey of location, traditions and vocabulary teaching us all, the boat company also were amazing, with the guide going the extra mile to spot the wildlife or help us get super close and the best photos, also allowing my son to drive the boat. At the end of the trip he organised a traditional dinner at a local families home, not only delicious but completely unexpected and wonderful. I truly recommend booking with Tony and Son, they are amazing. From the moment you book contact is frequent and you are collected and dropped off in comfort with very safe drivers. Jam-packed and awesome day. Our tour guide Roshard (apologies for the likely butchered spelling!) was very friendly and helpful. Started with the river safari, saw loads of monitor lizards, bats, birds, lizards, and monkeys. Our boat captain was amazing at spotting animals from miles away, and even managed to entice some monkeys to come and take bites and fruit from our hands!! Then we went to a temple (make sure your knees and shoulders are covered, either by clothes or take a sarong with you). There was a giant sitting Buddah and our guide helped us know how to be respectful when taking pictures and looking around the site. Lots of different shrines within the complex and our guide told us all about them. Then we went to the waterfall - there is a small changing room and toilet nearby, it's a short trek to the waterfall which can be quite slippery when wet so decent shoes are recommended. Only a couple of us swam, but it was so nice! Beautiful little grove with big butterflies, so peaceful! Strong current but it's shallow in most places so you won't get swept away. The one thing to be careful of is leeches- I think they were land leeches, and I didn't get any on me despite being in the water most, but 2 of my friends had a couple. We had a local lunch after getting dry and changed, a lovely family served us cassava with coconut, sambal and flatbread, plus some sweet patties with treacle coconut inside. It was all so delicious! And they made so much for us we felt bad not eating it all, but they wrapped up the remaining treacle patties for us to take home 🥰 Then it was the tea plantation - very informative and friendly staff, and a full tea tasting session which was awesome and the opportunity to buy some tea. The last stop was supposed to be Bentota market, but I think we were running a little late so the market stalls were closed, but we wandered around the shops guided by Roshard, but we didn't see much we were interested in so we head back. Bus was comfy, driver was very professional and Roshard was a great guide. All in all I'd highly recommend!
