Chapman's Peak
Chapman's Peak is the name of a mountain on the western side of the Cape Peninsula, between Hout Bay and Noordhoek in Cape Town, South Africa. The western flank of the mountain falls sharply for hundreds of metres into the Atlantic Ocean, and a spectacular road, known as Chapman's Peak Drive, hugs the near-vertical face of the mountain, linking Hout Bay to Noordhoek.
Cape Point National Park offers rugged rocks and sheer cliffs towering more than 200 metres above the sea and cutting deep into the ocean. Tourists can take the funicular to the lighthouse or are welcome to walk it. Apart from offering visitors an exciting and novel method of travel, taking the Flying Dutchman funicular saves visitors an uphill walk from the car park to see the old lighthouse and enjoy the panoramic views. The Flying Dutchman Funicular, also known as the Cape Point Funicular, is a funicular railway located at Cape Point. It’s the only commercial funicular of its type in Africa and takes its name from the local legend of the Flying Dutchman ghost ship. R80 per person(not included in the ticket) After convening at the meeting-point we move onto the Atlantic Sea-Board for a scenic drive before stopping at Hout Bay to see the Seals by the harbour
Visit to Boulders Beach Penguin Colony. R160pp. The Boulders Beach colony is on a sheltered beach made up of inlets between granite boulders, from which the name originated. It is a popular tourist stop because of a colony of African penguins which settled there in 1982. Boulders Beach forms part of the Table Mountain National Park. These African penguins are only found on the coastlines of Southern Africa - (South Africa & Namibia). These penguins are currently on the verge of extinction. As a result, the penguins are under the protection of the Cape Nature Conservation.
At the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens tourists will have time to explore alone, or on the Free Walking Tour or a golf cart tour of the gardens. Both start on the hour at gate 1. Admission Fees not included in ticket. (Golf Cart at own Expense). Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens is acclaimed as one of the great botanic gardens of the world. The garden is one of ten National Botanical Gardens covering five of South Africa's six different biomes.
