What to expect
Our visit begins near Porta Ferrea, we will know some details of the Royal Palace, the Royal Chapel of São Miguel and the Joanina Library, we will visit the outside of some faculties. On this tour we did not enter any building. Deleted entries.
Se Nova Catedral de Coimbra
Here in addition to observing the new cathedral, we will explain its history and some academic traditions that still take place in this space.
The medieval cathedral of the city of Coimbra, has undergone several stages of construction and transformation, we will explain its history, architecture and style(s). Emblematic space that marks the beginning of the Burning of Tape, the largest university party in the country.
Fado ao Centro
We went down the wretched Rua Quebra Costas, towards the statue of Tricana, which was the target of the attention and loving missives of the students. Discover why the fado of Coimbra is singing only by men.
The Almedina Tower was one of the most imposing towers and the main gateway to the medieval wall of the city of Coimbra. Today it is one of the few parts of the wall, along with the door of Barbacã, which still stand, resisting the weather of time.
Praca do Comercio
The Square of Commerce was, over the centuries, the “market square” where the locals made most of their sales and purchases. Here is a medieval square with medieval streets and medieval design houses. On the square we can observe historic buildings such as the "Medieval House", the Romanesque church of Santiago, church of St. Bartholomew or the old Royal Hospital (XVI century).
We will visit the interior of the Church of Santa Cruz, where we will be able to observe jewels such as the Iberian organ, the beautiful tiles and, if there is no mass, we will be able to observe the tombs of the first two kings of Portugal.
The experience can be subject to change due to bad weather or unforseen circumstances. We always endeavour to give you the best possible experience.
